Combermere

The only in-College girls boarding House, the Combermere opened in its current guise in 2007 and overlooks the Combermere Quad - one the central social areas of the school - within a stone's throw of the Dining-Hall, Chapel and Music School.

The HM

Sarah Brookes joined Wellington in September 2018 from Kingswood School, where she was Head of French and an Assistant Housemistress. A graduate of Bristol University, Sarah previously taught at Frome College in Somerset where she was Second in Department and taught both French and German. At Kingswood, she ran regular trips to France and coached tennis in the summer term. Alongside her love of language learning, she has a deep interest in Mindfulness and is passionate about the ways it can help young people in their everyday lives. She also enjoys walking, running and going to the cinema and theatre when time allows.

She will be joined in the Combermere by her fiancé, Paul, who runs his own PR company and their cockerpoo, Rupert.

The House

The Combermere is the only in-College boarding house for girls – being situated in a central position it has easy access to the library, dining-hall, music school and all social areas of the college. In addition to its unique location, the house is recognised for its fun, energetic and friendly atmosphere. The Combermere throws itself wholeheartedly into all aspects of school life – being a consistent front-runner in all house events it undoubtedly carries one of the most lively and envied spirits in the college. The central common room is a focal point of the house and facilitates the natural integration between the years along with creating the warm, hard-working and fun environment under which all the girls flourish. Whilst the house thrives under the healthy competitiveness of the school, the Combermere has established itself as a relaxing sanctuary created by the friendliness of both the staff and the pupils.
