Wellington Golf Captains Ellie L (W) and Jamie M (E) have been crowned champions of the 2026 Sunningdale Foursomes, marking a historic achievement for the pair.

Ellie, a member of the England Girls’ Squad, and Jamie, a former Regional Squad player, become the youngest ever winners of this prestigious event. Ellie is also the first female champion since 2022.

First played in 1934, the Sunningdale Foursomes is one of golf’s most iconic and distinctive tournaments. Held across both the Old and New Courses at Sunningdale, it uniquely brings together amateur and professional players. Each year, the field features an impressive mix of competitors, from current tour professionals and former Ryder Cup and Solheim Cup players to leading amateurs and high-profile sporting figures. This year’s entrants included Eddie Pepperell, Charley Hull, Sir Andy Murray and Gareth Bale.

Over four demanding days, Ellie and Jamie delivered an outstanding performance, winning seven matches against a series of formidable opponents. Their victories included wins over DP World Tour professionals Richard McEvoy and Matthew Southgate, as well as Men’s Squad players Tom Osborne and Eliot Baker.

The pair secured the title with a commanding 3&2 victory over PGA professionals Jordan Loft and Jamie Dick in Friday’s final on Sunningdale’s Old Course.

The 18-hole final was closely contested in its early stages. Loft and Dick took a narrow lead after ten holes, despite conceding five shots to their younger opponents. However, Ellie and Jamie showed remarkable composure and determination, turning the match decisively in their favour with wins on the 11th, 14th and 15th holes. A steady par on the par-4 16th sealed the championship with two holes to spare.

Their victory capped an exceptional week, showcasing not only their technical ability but also the teamwork and strategic precision required in foursomes golf, where players alternate shots throughout the round.

Freddie Edmunds, Head of Golf, praised their achievement: “This is an unbelievable achievement and history made. They are the youngest ever winners of the event and both captains of Wellington golf. They have played 36 holes a day for the whole week and beaten some exceptional golfers to win this event.”

Ellie and Jamie were joined in the field by several Old Wellingtonians, including Harriet Allsebrook (Hn 17), Freddy Dortmans (R 23) and Jack Sallis (Bd 14), as well as current pupil Seb D (R), highlighting the strong Wellington presence throughout the competition.
