Wellington College is delighted to welcome Sarah Bentley as its new Chair of Governors and Vice President.
Sarah takes up the role following the October Exeat, bringing with her a wealth of experience in business leadership, governance and strategic development, alongside a longstanding personal connection to the Wellington Community.
An accomplished business leader, Sarah is currently a Non-Executive Director at Lloyds Bank and Chair of the Gender Equality Leadership Team at Business in the Community. Her distinguished career includes serving as Chief Executive Officer of Thames Water, Chief Customer Officer at Severn Trent and Managing Partner of Accenture’s Digital Business Unit in the UK and Ireland. She has also held senior international leadership positions at BT Global Services, Datapoint and eLoyalty.
Sarah brings a longstanding personal connection to Wellington, with strong family ties to the College and many years as part of its community. Her understanding of Wellington’s values and traditions will be invaluable as she helps shape its next chapter.
Speaking about her appointment, Sarah said: “It is a great honour to be appointed Chair of Governors of Wellington College. Since its foundation, innovation, compassion and a willingness to challenge convention have been at the heart of Wellington’s DNA. As we navigate a period of profound change, particularly with the emergence of AI, I am excited by Wellington’s pioneering work on human flourishing, including its collaboration with the OECD, and by the opportunities presented by our remarkable family of schools in the UK and internationally. I look forward to working with the whole Wellington community to build on this extraordinary legacy and ensure Wellington continues to shape the future of education, preparing young people to flourish in a rapidly changing world.”
James Dahl, Master of Wellington College, has welcomed Sarah’s appointment, expressing his delight at the opportunity to work alongside someone he has known for many years. He also paid tribute to Sarah’s predecessor, William Jackson, for his exceptional leadership and support throughout his first seven years as Master.
Since joining the Board in 2017, William has overseen a period of significant development, including Wellington’s progression to becoming a fully balanced co-educational community, the repositioning of Eagle House as Wellington College Prep, the opening of a new Sixth Form Centre and the establishment of the College’s first co-educational Sixth Form boarding house.
The Wellington community extends its sincere thanks to William for his dedicated service and leadership, while warmly welcoming Sarah as she begins this exciting new chapter in the College’s history.
