The vast majority of Wellingtonians go on to Oxford, Cambridge, Russell Group universities, or other top institutions in the UK and US. In 2021, 95% of our Upper Sixth candidates secured places at their first or second choice university, and 16 won places at Oxford or Cambridge, with a further 26 going to the US. In 2021, the most popular universities for departing pupils were: Edinburgh (29) Durham (25) Exeter (23) Bristol (16) UCL (14) Bath (12) Imperial College London (9) Manchester (9) US universities at which Wellingtonians have been offered places in the past two years include: Harvard, Brown, Yale, University of Chicago, NYU, Berkeley, UCLA, Duke, Johns Hopkins and Stanford among many others. With well over two hundred Wellingtonians going on to university every year, the range of courses to be studied is extremely broad. Amongst the most popular are traditional courses such as Economics, Politics, Philosophy, International Relations, History, Business and Finance, Medicine, Engineering, Modern Languages and various science-based degrees such as Biochemistry or Natural Sciences.
