Golf being primarily an individual sport, it is hugely important we ensure players feel a part of a team with inclusion and kindness at the centre of our squad culture. Being one of the few sports that are vertical and mixed, it is essential we create a sense of belonging and support for all who golf at Wellington College.
Our squad structures are split into 3 tiers: performance golfer pathway, club golfer pathway, and development player pathway. Within these tiers there are a number of squads which we do not decide on ability alone and places are fluid throughout the year. We consider a mixture of ability, ambitions, attitude, and age through a combination of:
– Evidence of full commitment to the programme assessed through conversations / actions
– Attitudes and behaviours to push forward the programme values and culture
– Playing record and performance trajectory
– WAGR / WHS Hcp
At golf we support multi-sport athletes, so should a student wish to compete across multiple sports, we will do all we can to support that ambition.
