The IB Diploma has three core elements, the Extended Essay, Theory of Knowledge (ToK) and CAS (Creativity, Activity and Service) that students must complete in addition to their academic subjects.
On 31 January, the U6th IB students participated in the IB Core Event. This involved an exhibition of ToK objects and the CAS Projects Demonstration. Each student must complete a CAS project, the final stage of which is “demonstration”. This involves students discussing their project, answering questions and reflecting on their experience whilst showing the evidence they have amassed for their project. Although this is a necessary step for students to complete their IB Diploma, the event has a festive air as it marks the “beginning of the end” of CAS and ToK and takes the students one step nearer to their IB Diplomas.
“The IB programme has been a great success story. Over 50 % of our sixth form now take up the challenge.
The outward looking nature of the IB has much to offer; it equips pupils with independence of thought and a desire to make the world a better place.”
Richard Atherton, Head of IB at Wellington College
