Congratulations to Wellington College’s IB students on receiving a remarkable set of results today. The Diploma, globally recognised by universities as a genuine test of academic rigour and resilience, asks students to study a combination of six subjects in addition to completing an Extended Essay, a Theory of Knowledge module, and a Creativity, Activity and Service programme.

Before any re-marks have been received, the current average score stands at 38.7, with almost half the cohort scoring over 40 points,  and two students achieving the holy grail of a perfect 45. In the weeks to come, the College looks set to better last year’s average student score of 39.1, an outcome that will place Wellington within the highest achieving schools around the world.

The Master, James Dahl says: “Huge congratulations to the graduating IB cohort who have, once again, delivered another stunning set of results. We could not be prouder of them or their hard work and dedication over the past two years. Completing the IB Diploma requires stamina, organisation, intellectual rigour and huge amounts of resilience;  the fact that this year’s cohort includes some of our most committed musicians and dancers, international sportsmen and women, student leaders and those committed to significant charitable and service endeavour, speaks volumes of this remarkable group of Wellingtonians. We wish them all a thoroughly deserved rest over the summer break and look forward to hearing their news from universities as far afield as Italy, Spain, the US, Canada, South Africa. Oxbridge and so many other UK institutions too.”

Richard Atherton, the College’s Director of IB, commented: ‘Wellington’s IB students deserved these incredible results. They fed off each other’s energy and, as they would say, “locked in” to make it happen. Staying involved with the rich and varied life at Wellington – the sport, the arts and the social side – helped them stay relaxed and focussed.’

Well done to them indeed: we wish them all the very best as they move on to the next stages of their academic journey and hope they will stay closely in touch by benefitting from the College’s extensive Life Beyond Wellington programme.
