On Wednesday 6th May, the GWA was filled with over 120 dancers competing in the Independent Schools Dance Festival 2026.
There was a wonderful sense of community throughout the event, with seven schools from across the south-eastern counties supporting one another positively.
The styles showcased included contemporary, lyrical, modern, commercial and street dance, with every school presenting truly impressive solo, duet and group performances.
For Wellington dancers, the evening proved especially successful. Not only did we secure a top-three finish in every category entered, but our Senior Commercial Group were awarded runners-up. Excitingly, Thommy and Elyssa received a winning prize for their uplifting and joyful duet, while the Dance Scholars’ latest creation, Icarus, achieved the highest score of the entire event and won the Group Contemporary category. Bursting with feathers, beautiful musicality and clever patterning, the performance left the judges blown away.
Overall, it was a brilliantly entertaining evening of exceptionally high-quality dance, and we are incredibly proud and privileged to have shared the stage with such a wonderful array of dance departments.
