Held on Friday 5 December, this year’s Orchestral Gala brought together the full breadth of musical talent at Wellington College, uniting the Symphony Orchestra, Camerata, Concert Band and Big Band for a spectacular evening of ensemble performance. The concert marked a highlight of an exceptionally busy and rewarding term, enriched by masterclasses, a tour to Wellington College Shanghai, major choral and orchestral performances and even the recording of BBC4’s Sunday Worship.
The programme showcased the remarkable range of our musicians, from the sparkling brilliance of Rossini and the vivid character of Bizet, to the evocative Troika of Prokofiev and the Baroque elegance of Corelli. The Concert Band and Big Band added further variety and energy with contemporary, jazz and popular works, demonstrating the versatility of our young performers.
Our sincere thanks go to the dedicated staff and visiting teachers who have supported and inspired our musicians throughout the term, and particularly in preparation for this gala performance. As we look ahead to the College’s forthcoming appearance at Milton Court in the New Year, the Gala stands as a joyful celebration of the commitment, collaboration and musical excellence that define the Wellington community.
