This year’s International Baccalaureate results reflect not only academic excellence, but also the breadth of ambition, curiosity and character that define a Wellington education. From future medics and engineers to geographers, economists and international relations students, this year’s highest-achieving pupils are preparing for exciting next steps, with destinations including the Universities of Cambridge, Durham, Edinburgh, King’s College London and Leeds.
While each student’s journey has been unique, their reflections reveal common themes: inspiring teachers, lifelong friendships, memorable experiences beyond the classroom and a culture that encourages every pupil to aim high. Here, they look back on their time at Wellington and ahead to the exciting opportunities that await.
Annie
“I couldn’t quite believe it. I was just so relieved to get my offer. I had worked really hard over the last year, so it was nice to know that it was all worth it.”
Next year, Annie will read Geography at the University of Cambridge.
Reflecting on her time at Wellington, Annie credits her Geography teacher, Ms Taylor, for inspiring her passion for the subject.
A highlight of her time at College was serving as Deputy Head of College, a role that gave her “so many fun and exciting opportunities”, including Tough Mudder and the Prefect Trip.
Sasha
“Opening my results was one of the most stressful moments of my life. I clicked through them all as quickly as possible and then spent 30 seconds staring at the screen in disbelief, checking I hadn’t read the total wrong.”
Originally planning to study Economics at Durham, Sasha is now considering a gap year before applying to Oxford to study Human Sciences, using the time to travel and explore Europe.
Reflecting on his time at Wellington, Sasha said: “My inspiration has undoubtedly remained my Blucher year group. Everyone supported each other to pursue their passions and interests, and that sense of belonging allowed me to thrive.”
One of his favourite memories came from a spontaneous late-night gathering in the boarding house, cooking frozen dumplings together before watching a film.
He described his Wellington experience as “Spectacular.”
Maja
“I was absolutely thrilled when I opened my results and so glad to see the hard work had paid off. I’m grateful to the teachers, friends and family who supported me along the way.”
Maja will study Medicine at King’s College London, while continuing to pursue her passion for music and theatre.
Reflecting on her time at Wellington, Maja said her friends were a constant source of inspiration, always encouraging and supporting one another despite their own commitments.
Producing Tick, Tick… Boom! with her friends remains one of her favourite memories, made possible by the support of the Music Department.
Looking back, Maja says Wellington gave her “opportunity”, helping her discover new passions while teaching her resilience and perseverance.
Oliver
“Opening my results was a huge relief. It was great to see that all my hard work had paid off.”
This autumn, Oliver will begin studying International Relations and Chinese at the London School of Economics (LSE).
Reflecting on his time at Wellington, Oliver credits both the wider Wellington community and Mrs Huang with inspiring him throughout his journey.
“The Wellington community encourages and promotes curiosity and hard work, and Mrs Huang pushed me to reach my full potential.”
One of Oliver’s favourite memories was winning the Rosslyn Park National Schools Sevens alongside his teammates.
He summed up his Wellington experience in one word: “Transformative.”
Alexia
“I was definitely relieved, but mostly excited to be able to look forward to my future plans.”
Alexia plans to spend time travelling around Asia with friends before studying Engineering at Durham University.
She credits her friends with inspiring her throughout her time at Wellington.
Looking back, Alexia says one of the best parts of College life was “being able to live with my friends and just have a laugh every day.”
She summed up her Wellington experience in one word: “Fulfilling.”
Archie
Archie admitted that opening his results was simply “surprising”.
This autumn he will begin studying International Relations at the University of Edinburgh.
Archie credits Mr Carr as one of the biggest influences on his Wellington journey, describing him as someone who genuinely cares for every pupil.
One of his proudest memories was representing Wellington on the Lee Valley Olympic Hockey Pitch.
He described his time at College as “Memorable.”
Juliet
“Opening my results was hugely relieving and validating. It felt wonderful to know that all my hard work had paid off.”
Juliet will study Medicine at Leeds University.
Looking back, Juliet says she was inspired every day by the supportive and hardworking girls in her House.
Her favourite Wellington memory is Monday Night Inter-house Football, describing it as “competitive but above all a lot of fun.”
She chose “Kaleidoscope” as the one word that best captures her Wellington experience.
Dan
“Opening my results was a huge relief to be honest, but I was really happy in the end.”
Dan plans to travel through Australia and Asia before studying PPE at Durham University.
He credits his Housemaster, Mr Adams, as a constant source of inspiration throughout his time at Wellington.
Winning the Rosslyn Park National Schools Sevens tournament with his teammates stands out as one of his proudest memories.
Georgia
“I was definitely nervous opening my results, especially HL Maths, but Mr Parrott had been so supportive and reassuring throughout the year that I went into results day feeling a bit more relaxed. Seeing all the hard work pay off was such an amazing feeling.”
Georgia plans to spend a year gaining new experiences abroad, including working in South Africa, before hopefully beginning her studies at the University of Edinburgh.
She credits both Mr Dahl and Mr Clarke with inspiring her during her time at Wellington, praising their encouragement, enthusiasm and ability to make learning enjoyable.
One of Georgia’s favourite memories was completing Tough Mudder with the Prefect Team, describing the teamwork, encouragement and laughter as unforgettable.
She summed up her Wellington experience as “Radiating.”
Luka
“The first feeling was relief, knowing all my hard work wasn’t for nothing. That quickly turned into immense pride as two years of dedication were reflected in my results.”
Luka will spend his gap year playing cricket in Melbourne before travelling around South East Asia.
Looking back on his time at Wellington, Luka credits his teachers for inspiring both his love of learning and his passion for their subjects.
His cricket tour to South Africa remains one of his favourite memories, bringing lifelong friendships while allowing him to play sport in some of the world’s most beautiful locations.
He summed up his Wellington experience in one word: “Priceless.”
