There is a tradition for the Prefect Team to take on a challenge at the start of the academic year, not only to build teamwork and push themselves, but most importantly to support a charity close to their hearts. A bonus is always the chance to put some staff through their paces, in particular Mr Dahl!
Tough Mudder 2025 may have been in the diary for some time, giving the team the opportunity to prepare, but with a trip to Hong Kong and Bangkok followed by three intensive days with the Independent Schools Inspectorate, the Prefects could not have chosen a tougher week to really test Mr Dahl to his limits. Still, when the team crossed the finish line, it was all the more rewarding.
The day began with a one-hour bus ride from College, soundtracked by a curious mix of old-school hits, some nostalgic, some questionable, but all setting the tone for what was to come. Spirits were high, though the chill in the air upon arrival left many wondering: was it the cold, or just nerves? Joining the Prefect Team and Mr Dahl were Second Master Mrs Henderson, Head of Wellness and Physical Fitness Mr Wyndham and Strength and Conditioning Coach Mr Lowry.
From crawling through thick mud under barbed wire to plunging into ice baths and sprinting through dangling live wires, each obstacle demanded grit, resilience and above all, teamwork. Despite the punishing nature of the course, laughter echoed through the mud and bonds were strengthened with every obstacle overcome.
Driving the team forward was their commitment to raising funds for Young Lives vs Cancer. The Prefects are aiming to raise £18,000, representing Wellington’s 18 boarding houses. The charity supports children and families facing the challenges of cancer, providing practical help and emotional support when it is most needed.
Well done to the whole team, who proved that with heart, humour and teamwork, even the toughest mudder can be conquered.
