Few young riders have created such an impression on the Equestrian scene as Wellington student Tilly B. A string of good performances this summer in the show jumping arena saw Tilly selected for the UK’s Under 16 team who competed in the European Nationals held this year in Strezgom, Poland. Tilly’s fine performance there, on her pony Lapi saw her go on to win gold in September at the Nations Cup Final in Peelbergen, Holland.

Tilly has been riding almost before she could walk, first taking the reins when she was only three years old and starting her Show Jumping career aged just ten. A passionate horsewoman, Tilly enjoys the precision needed in the ring, and the almost telepathic connection between horse and rider. Since starting at Wellington in September she has valued the way she is allowed to spend her Thursday afternoon sports option training and riding, and says that the support she receives when having to miss school for competitions is really helpful: ‘ the fact that all the lessons are posted on OneNote (Wellington is a Microsoft showcase school) makes it easy to catch up, and the way the teachers both understand and support me in balancing my riding and school work commitments has been super helpful.’

When asked about her ambitions, she says ‘I just want to carry on doing as well as I can’, and then, with a twinkle in her eye ‘and who knows, maybe one day the Olympics – that has to be the ultimate goal!’ We wish her all the very best of luck, and in particular will be rooting for her as she competes in the Pony World Cup held in Lyon next week: that she is one of only three children selected from the GB team gives an indication of the high regard she is held on the international stage.
