At Wellington, academic scholarship is an attitude of mind not simply a description of intelligence. It involves fostering intellectual curiosity and humility in our pupils and developing within them a passion for learning and independent thinking.  We consider scholars to be representatives of scholarship in the school: they are not just hard workers but have a genuine and sustained interest in academic life beyond the curriculum alone.

At the Third Form Celebration Event it was wonderful to recognise those pupils that truly embody these values. The majority of scholarships are now awarded at the end of Third Form including the seven most prestigious ‘named’ academic scholarships:

Named Scholarships

  • Wellesley Scholarship: Jesse O
  • Benson Scholarship: Roselie DB
  • Fisher Scholarship: Tara M
  • West Scholarship: Max B
  • Hughes Scholarship: Daniel E
  • Marshall Scholarship: Olive H
  • Governors Scholarship: Marina C

All scholars gain access to our Academic Scholarship Programme which starts at the end of August with a Cambridge residential. During Michaelmas they follow two short courses looking at making connections within and between subjects and public speaking, as well as a number of workshops run by external speakers including Dr Matthew Patterson of the University of St Andrews on how AI is helping better predict our climate future and Economist Mo Tanweer on Game Theory.
