On Thursday, 27 February, Wellington College opened its doors to young singers from across the region for the much-anticipated Prep Schools Choral Day. Held in the G.W. Annenberg Theatre, the event brought together talented pupils from 11 prep schools for a day filled with inspiring music-making, culminating in a truly magnificent performance as parents joined their children in song, filling the G.W. Annenberg Theatre with a heartfelt and joyous celebration of music.

Led by the distinguished Dan Ludford-Thomas, Musical Director of the National Children’s Choir of Great Britain, the young choristers were guided through an enriching repertoire of songs. The day featured pieces such as Welcome Table, Praise the Lord, All Through the Night, and How Can I Keep from Singing?—all chosen to challenge and inspire the pupils while fostering a love for choral singing.

Under the expert direction of Dan, pupils worked together throughout the day, refining their harmonies, perfecting their phrasing, and embracing the joy of choral singing. The final performance was a magnificent showcase of their hard work, as their combined voices filled the theatre with rich, uplifting harmonies.

Simon Williamson, Wellington College’s Director of Music and Arts, emphasised the importance of music in education, stating, “Music is at the heart of life at Wellington. This event is a wonderful opportunity for young singers to experience the magic of choral performance in a professional setting.”

This year’s Prep Schools Choral Day saw participation from a remarkable group of schools, each bringing their own unique talent and enthusiasm to the event, with over 250 pupils taking part.

The success of the Prep Schools Choral Day reaffirms Wellington College’s dedication to nurturing young talent and fostering a lifelong appreciation for music. As the event continues to grow in popularity, the College looks forward to welcoming more young singers in the years to come.

Next year’s Prep Schools Choral Day is already set for 26 February 2026, promising another exciting day of musical collaboration and excellence.
