Wellington College has been named School of the Year at the 2026 County LTA Awards, recognising the College’s outstanding commitment to developing tennis for players of all abilities.
The award celebrates schools that provide exceptional opportunities for students to engage with tennis, from grassroots participation to elite performance. At Wellington, the sport continues to flourish through an inclusive programme that supports beginners discovering the game for the first time as well as students competing on the international stage.
More than 400 students take part in tennis each year through the sports curriculum and a wide range of co-curricular sessions. The programme is designed to ensure that every pupil can access high-quality coaching and facilities, whether their goal is to enjoy tennis recreationally or to pursue competitive success.
Recent years have seen significant investment in Wellington’s tennis provision. With the addition of 12 new courts and a third astro surface, the College will soon have 46 tennis courts on site, including two indoor courts, creating one of the most extensive school tennis facilities in the country.
This strong infrastructure is complemented by an experienced and dedicated coaching team who work with students at every level of the game.
The programme has also produced impressive competitive results. Last year, Toby W won the U14 Tennis Europe doubles title in Ireland, while Wellington’s girls’ team secured victory in the St George’s Cup. As county champions, Wellington College teams have also reached the regional finals — the top four schools in the South East — in three of the last four years.
The County LTA Award recognises not only these successes but the breadth and quality of the tennis experience offered at Wellington. By combining outstanding facilities, expert coaching and an inclusive ethos, the programme continues to inspire pupils to develop a lifelong love of the sport.
Winning School of the Year is a fitting acknowledgement of a thriving tennis culture at Wellington College and the continued dedication of students, coaches and staff who contribute to its success.
