This year’s junior school play was Wellington’s own take on the J M Barrie classic, Peter Pan, this time told from the perspective of Wendy. The play centres around the disappearance of Tom, and explores the themes of loss, childhood, family and friendship with a wonderful balance between poignant moments of intense pathos with genuine comedy and light-heartedness.

Annabel Power (O) excelled in her role as the eponymous heroine, bringing a real sense of steely determination to the character of Wendy, but there were performances of the highest quality from all the cast: Hayley Canham (O) was the perfect Tink, full of attitude and sassiness; Guy Zilberman (R) and Baxter Westby (S) were highly convincing as Wendy’s brothers John and Michael; Lucas Evans (Pn) and Will Smith (S) provided many of the biggest laughs as Captain Hook and the ever-so-slightly-camp Smee; Max Hindley (S) was a brilliant Martin, the pirate who just didn’t quite fit, not to forget Peter Pan himself played expertly by Alex Kirby (Bn).

In all, almost 100 Wellingtonians from the Third and Fourth Form were involved in this brilliant production, many of whom were treading the boards for the first time. With so many talented performers in the younger year groups at the College, the future of Wellington drama looks very bright indeed.
