Wellington College’s partnership with Yangrima School in Nepal has been ongoing for over 20 years. Following the successful visit of Wellington students to Nepal during Easter 2023, Global Education, led by Ana Romero, invited two Yangrima students to spend the last week of the half term and one week of exeat at Wellington College for a fully immersive cultural experience. Pasang and Urken have been warmly hosted and welcomed by the HM, girls, and the entire Anglesey house team. They have been taking lessons, participating in co-curricular activities, and even had a particularly special experience — ice skating for the very first time. During the half term, they will be visiting different areas around London.

The Global Citizenship programme also saw Ed Kirwan, Founder of the Empathy Week organisation, speak to the Fifth and Lower Sixth pupils. The theme of empathy will continue throughout the year, involving tutorials and assemblies as well as the third visit of the Big Gold Box. This immersive experience, a three-way partnership between Chaplaincy, Global Education, and Global Citizenship, connects Wellington College pupils with communities across the world for transformational conversations. Last year’s project was nominated for the ‘Best Use of Technology’ in Tes Schools Awards.

Fifth Form and Lower Sixth pupils involved in projects with vulnerable members of society followed this talk with safeguarding training provided by our new Safeguarding Manager, Mrs Stephanie Eyers. Pupils have started their visits to care homes, local schools, and interactions with charities.

Pupils in the Third Form began their carousel of activities with Arts Award and Enrichment. This will continue when they return to College post exeat for two more weeks before moving on to the next placement. We look forward to the exciting experiences and growth these programmes will bring to our students.
