Wellington College China Tianjin International first opened its doors to pupils on August 22nd 2011. It was born out of a vision to take the holistic model of education so successfully implemented at Wellington College to the rest of the world, to bring the best of British education to China while taking into account cultural norms and the regional realities of Tianjin. The key missions was to ensure that Wellington College’s ‘DNA’ permeates everything which goes on at WCIT.
Built on a strong academic ethos, this all-age, fully co-educational school sets the highest expectations both inside and outside of the classroom. Pupils sit IGCSEs and the option of A levels or IB Diploma.
The heritage and traditions of Wellington College feed into to the ethos of WCIT through tangible links and worthwhile exchanges, and a number of Wellington College staff have moved to Tianjin to work in the school.
A strong sense of community and pastoral care has been developed and provided through a parallel house system, and a programme of well-being developed at Wellington College is also delivered to all pupils at WCIT.
With a state of the art theatre, indoor swimming pool, running track and sports centre, it has facilities to match the best international schools in the world.
WCIT added another dimension to the coming together of the Wellington Family of Schools when Wellington College celebrated its 150th anniversary at the Royal Albert Hall on 30th April 2012. The performance of 4 year old Mimi Zou on the piano and the dragon dance by pupils from the school was performed in front of an audience of five thousand people.
