If you’ve been following the incredible journey of David Lofthouse and Cerebral Palsy Trust, you’re already familiar with the remarkable growth of this special charity since its inception in 2020. From its roots at Wellington, CPT has expanded significantly, raising an astounding £260,000 to fund three life-changing surgeries. Yet, CPT’s impact goes beyond fundraising, fostering a supportive community in collaboration with Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH).
The recent Christmas CPT x GOSH Inspire Day was a testament to the enduring success of their partnership. Held at the warm and inviting St Dionis, the event provided a perfect setting for a day filled with inspiration and togetherness. Months of planning culminated in a joyous occasion, where attendees immersed themselves in festive activities, laughter, and shared experiences.
The halls buzzed with excitement as attendees engaged in various activities, with the arts and crafts area proving particularly popular. The highlight was a group cavalcade pass-the-parcel featuring festive impressions and lighthearted Christmas-themed jokes. Teams then competed in a gingerbread decoration contest, emphasising the festive spirit over artistic finesse. The day concluded with a heartwarming group hymn sing-along, featuring classics like ‘Come All Ye Faithful,’ ‘We Three Kings,’ and a touch of Mariah Carey.
Miles K, a member of the CPT team, reflected on the day’s impact, expressing how connecting with families who had undergone surgery provided deep insight into the incredible work of the GOSH team. Other team members, including Charlie I, Baz M, Ed T, Oscar T and Ryan E, echoed the sentiment, emphasising the joy and inspiration drawn from interacting with the families.
In Miles words, “Seeing families with children who between the two events had been provided with the surgery and hearing about their stories and ups and downs was incredibly compelling and gave me once again the insight into what amazing things the team at GOSH do.”
Phoebe, a child who had undergone surgery between the summer and Christmas events shared this message with the CPT team.
Phoebe’s story serves as a powerful reminder of the impact these events have on the lives of children and their families. The CPT x GOSH Christmas Inspire Day was not just a festive celebration but a reaffirmation of the strength, resilience, and unity that characterise the Cerebral Palsy Trust community. As expressed by the CPT team members, this special day has left an indelible mark, fostering a sense of gratitude and a commitment to continuing the partnership with GOSH for many more inspiring events to come.
