On Tuesday 23 May, staff, parents and students gathered for a wonderful evening of academic debate. The Third Form Academic Scholars had produced posters of their research on a topic sparked by one of the earlier sessions in the Academic Scholars Programme which included Astronomy, History of Art, Ecology, Existentialism, Economic Thought, Engineering, Music Technology, and Linguistics.

There was a fascinating range of projects on show. Mimi C (O) analysed the Spring Budget through the lens of inequality. Leo W (M) looked at the ethics of Big Data and Sebastian W (Pn) the ethics of AI. Thomas H (Hl) produced a fascinating review of the impact of social media on the Ukraine War effort whilst Benjamin Z (R) looked at a number of different case studies in order to assess the impact of Hedge Funds on their acquisitions. Rohan G (R) produced an in depth study of how Shepard Tones create the illusion of infinity in order to evoke emotion in advertising.

The audience circulated around the room, speaking individually to students who spoke with authority on their topics and answered questions with confidence and clarity. Congratulations to Leo W (M) who was awarded the Matt Oakman Prize for Academic Extension and to Mimi C (0) for coming runner-up.
