The much-anticipated Duke’s Games returned in spectacular fashion this week at Wellington College, bringing together students from across the College for a tradition that continues to grow in scale, intensity and excitement each year.

Run by our Heads of College, the Duke’s Games has become a highlight in the calendar, a unique blend of competition, creativity and camaraderie that captures the spirit of Wellington at its very best.

This year’s Games unfolded across four unforgettable rounds, each testing different skills and encouraging students to think creatively, work together and embrace the challenge.

It began with the infamous “Death of the Duke”, where students made their way around the College following clues, thinking strategically and immersing themselves in the game. With a blend of teamwork, creativity and quick thinking, participants aimed to complete their targets and progress through to the next round.

The action then moved to the astro for “Capture the Duke”, where speed, teamwork and agility took centre stage. Those who made it through faced the intellectual challenge of “The Duke’s Mind”, a quiz night that proved just as engaging as the physical rounds.

Alongside the main competition, the hunt for the coveted Golden Eggs added another layer of excitement, with clues, hidden locations and even a charity raffle giving students additional opportunities to secure their place in the final.

All roads led to Wednesday evening, where the final “Be The Duke” took place following the Dance Battle. Held at Rockies, the atmosphere was electric as finalists competed to be the last one standing.

In a dramatic conclusion to a week filled with twists and turns, it was Ben S who emerged victorious, earning the title of The Duke 2026.

From strategic gameplay and friendly competition to moments of humour and house spirit, the Duke’s Games once again showcased the energy, creativity and community that define life at Wellington.
