As our most recent Old Wellingtonians embark on the next chapter of their lives at university, we take a moment to reflect on the remarkable journeys that have brought them to this point. Two of Wellington’s scholars, Saskia and Toby, exemplify the dedication, passion, and growth that are at the heart of the Wellington College experience. From the sports fields to the stage, they have not only excelled academically but have fully embraced the opportunities and challenges that shaped their time here.
Saskia, awarded her sports scholarship at the end of Year 9, balanced the rigours of academic life with her deep commitment to sport. Her journey was not without challenges, but through the support of
Wellington’s scholarship team, she honed her time management skills—an invaluable tool that propelled her to excel both in the classroom and on the sports field, representing the school, her club, and even her county. As she reflects in her video, Saskia’s journey was enriched by the exceptional coaches and teachers who guided her along the way. Graduating with A* A* A, she now begins her next chapter at Exeter University, aspiring to a future in law while also dreaming of playing in the Super League.
Toby, who was also awarded his scholarship at the end of Year 9, found his true passion on Wellington’s stage. From performing in junior plays to studying GCSE Drama and taking LAMDA lessons, Toby thrived in the vibrant arts community at Wellington. His journey as a drama scholar culminated in a memorable final-year performance where he played his dream role in Les Misérables. In his video, Toby shares the joy of being part of such an unforgettable production and looks forward to continuing his passion for drama at Warwick University, where he recently began his studies having achieved A* A* A at A Level.
Both Saskia and Toby embody the Wellington ethos. They balanced their passions with academic excellence, developing a remarkable blend of discipline, creativity, and ambition. Their journeys serve as a reminder that with dedication and support, anything is possible.
We wish Saskia, Toby, and all our recent leavers the very best in their exciting new ventures. Their time at Wellington has equipped them with the resilience, skills, and determination to thrive at university and beyond, and we look forward to seeing what they achieve next.
