Fifteen Wellington College pupils have already secured early offers from leading US universities this year, including Yale University, University of Pennsylvania and Dartmouth College.
Interest in studying beyond the UK continues to grow, with pupils increasingly exploring opportunities not only in the United States but also across Europe and Asia. The strength of this year’s early offers reflects both the ambition of our pupils and the depth of Wellington’s university preparation programme.
Among this year’s successes is an athlete recruit place at University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill for highly sought-after hockey player Cecily M. Two further pupils in the year group have secured athletic recruitment opportunities in golf — a testament to the College’s ability to support excellence in both academic and sporting pathways.
Ella M, who is studying Geography, Economics and English at Higher Level in the IB Diploma, has received an offer from Boston College.
“Through my visit to the US on the school trip, I was able to tour the universities I planned on applying to, helping shape my perspective on which university was the best fit for me and informing my Early Decision choice. Having the opportunity to meet the Director of Admissions from Boston College, through a College-organised lunch at school, also gave me great insight into life at the university and the admissions process. The support of my A-List advisor, Charlotte, throughout the process from start to finish was invaluable.”

The early application window closed in November, but many other pupils have applied through the regular decision round, which concluded in early January. With over 25 additional students awaiting outcomes, the number of Wellingtonians heading to the US is expected to rise further still.
“Although I always knew I wanted to go to the US for university, my teachers at Wellington were instrumental in helping me define my main area of academic interest. Going to activities like Biology Bites every week made me certain I wanted to major in Biology.”
— Alec
Alongside personalised 1:1 advising, pupils benefit from a rich programme of visiting speakers, alumni panels and admissions events. Last term, Wellington welcomed representatives from Columbia University, Emory University, University of Chicago, University of Southern California, New York University, the University of Waterloo and Boston College.
Increasingly, Old Wellingtonians are also returning to share their first-hand experiences of studying in the US, offering candid insight and guidance to current pupils through our OW Ambassador network.

The annual US Universities Trip, held each October half-term, provides Fifth Form and Lower Sixth pupils with the opportunity to visit a range of campuses and experience the US liberal arts model in action. This October, prospective applicants will travel to the Mid-Atlantic region, with visits focused on Washington, D.C. and Philadelphia.
“I went on the school’s US Universities Trip whilst in Fifth Form to Boston and New York, where I discovered more about the US curriculum — and it inspired me to apply.”
— Misha
These early offers add to the 20 US university destinations secured by the Class of 2025, with Old Wellingtonians now studying at institutions across the United States — including representation at all eight Ivy League universities.
With a growing number of early offers, athletic scholarships and competitive applications in progress, Wellington pupils continue to demonstrate the confidence, curiosity and global ambition that define a Wellington education.
