This weekend, Wellington College and Whitgift School came together for the annual Seb Adeniran-Olule Memorial Game – a fixture that represents far more than just rugby. The match honours Seb, a talented player and much-loved Wellington and Whitgift alumnus, who went on to play for Harlequins and represent England at age-group level before his tragic passing in 2016.
In Seb’s memory, the Seb Adeniran-Olule Foundation was established to support young people through education, sport, and mental health initiatives. The Foundation’s mission is to break down barriers so that every young person has access to the guidance and opportunities they need to flourish both on and off the field.
This year, Wellington and Whitgift players stood shoulder to shoulder in support of the Foundation. Both the 1st and 2nd XV teams wore special Seb Foundation T-shirts, thanks to the initiative of one of Wellington’s rugby scholars, who has been fundraising and raising awareness across the school community:
“I have started raising money for the charity by selling Seb Foundation T-shirts to the 1st Team and 2nd Team. I will be trying to continue to raise money and awareness over the year ahead and particularly to support the mental health workshops that the foundation supports.”
The gesture was warmly received, with Whitgift students also wearing the shirts – a powerful symbol of unity, respect, and shared commitment to a cause that transcends rivalry. Parents, pupils, and supporters of both schools joined in celebrating Seb’s life and legacy and in recognising the importance of mental health education.
A special thanks goes to NextGenLive, whose coverage of the game ensured Seb’s story and the work of the Foundation reached an even wider audience. Their livestream drew over 5,000 viewers, with commentary and features throughout the day highlighting the Foundation’s mission to support young people through mental health and sporting opportunities.
The Seb Adeniran-Olule Foundation continues to deliver workshops and programmes in schools and sports clubs, providing vital support to young people and ensuring Seb’s memory inspires future generations.
