The HM
Sam Wilson became Housemaster of Hopetoun in 2026, bringing a deep personal connection to Wellington and a strong commitment to pastoral care, leadership and community.
His ‘why’, as HM, is to guide the girls of Hopetoun through College life and let them learn how to live. As an Old Wellingtonian, Beresford 1998–2003, he understands the opportunities, challenges and enduring value of College life.
Since joining Wellington in 2018, Sam has been a tutor, Deputy HM of Anglesey and CCF Contingent Commander, giving him broad experience supporting pupils, parents and staff. Before teaching: at university he studied Industrial Design; commissioned from The Royal Military Academy Sandhurst into The RIFLES and served for seven years as an infantry officer. In between a military career and teaching, Sam worked as a marketing strategist. Outside of teaching, Sam enjoys fitness racing, illustration, model making, gardening and enjoying the great outdoors.
He is joined by his wife, Katie, who is Clinical Matron for Paediatrics at Frimley Park Hospital, and their daughters, Trudie and Heidi.
The House
The Hopetoun is a warm, ambitious and inclusive community where every girl is known, valued and encouraged to find her place. Learning how to live is the foundation of a Hopetounian’s journey.
Built on trust, belonging and purposeful agency, the house helps girls develop the confidence, judgement and self-awareness to make good decisions, take responsibility and contribute positively to themselves and those around them.
House life is shaped by kindness and shared responsibility. Girls are encouraged to celebrate individuality, contribute meaningfully and support one another. This makes Hopetoun much more than a boarding house: it is a home full of warmth, purpose and belonging.
